Microneedling Q & A

What is MicroNeedling?

Also known as collagen induction therapy because it boosts the skin's production of collagen and elastin.

Microneedling is a method of inducing a controlled injury to the skin's dermal and epidermal junction, which induces growth factors, new collagen, and elastin. This process protects the skin's cell growth, resulting in quick healing and high rates of success. This advanced technology helps rejuvenate, restore, and tighten skin. It's proven to help eliminate wrinkles, fine lines, scarring, and pigment irregularities.

Who can be treated and which areas of the body can be treated?

This procedure can be performed effectively and safely on all skin types and can treat a variety of concerns. All areas of the body can be treated, such as: face, neck, chest, hands, arms, legs, abdomen and back.

How many microneedling treatments will I need?

Typically a series of 3-6 treatments is recommended. Dr. Rafal will determine the optimal treatment plan based on individual goals and desires. Treatments are usually performed in 3-4 week intervals. Patients with deep wrinkles, stretch marks, scars, or advanced sun damage may benefit from 6 or more treatments to achieve the best results.

Will the microneedling procedure be uncomfortable?

Prior to your treatment, Dr. Rafal will apply a topical numbing cream. A majority of patients report feeling very little to no pain at all once the agent has been applied.

How long will my microneedling results last?

Microneedling produces results through the stimulation of growth factors and collagen, thereby, promoting new skin cells to surface. As the skin ages, collagen production naturally decreases. The overall result will last longer when using a skin care regimen designed by Dr. Rafal. New collagen and elastin formation has been documented to be present as long as one year after just a single treatment.

How long will it take for me to see results from my microneedling treatment?

The majority of patients see results after just one treatment. Individual results vary depending on a patient's skin health. Most commonly, patients report experiencing positive changes as soon as 1-2 weeks after treatment and some within a few days.

What will I look like after my treatment?

There is typically no downtime with microneedling. Immediately after your treatment the skin will look moderately red such as a light sunburn. Dr. Rafal will recommend a post treatment skincare regimen based on the patient's individual skin. This will also help with any redness or peeling a patient may experience due to the treatment.

Can I use makeup after my treatment?

Directly after your treatment we recommend using only mineral based foundation, as it cannot build bacteria. You may go back to your regular foundation 4 days post treatment.
